Possible Civil War Find

Does anyone know what this is?

I found it ( I was given the owner's permission to search) where the Union Army had a munition supply depot that they destroyed in the face of advancing Confederate forces. It is metal but not iron and has round openings on both ends. The opening on the larger end looks like it might have been threaded. The openings do not meet; there is metal between the openings. There is a pattern like an X that is in the picture; the X would be sideways in the photo; there are four bumps evenly spaced on the bottom of the thick end (Around two and half spot on the ruler. This item weighs about a pound.

It is a strange item, I can't tell s lot about it even blown up. It is made of some kind of metal that rusts, what it is I have no idea at all.Maybe some metals fused together from the explosion of the munitions depot.

Looks like a decorative finial, not necessarily ACW period.

It could be the finial from the top of a flag staff.

Thank you both for helping me identify this item.

With your help I will believe that this is likely a finial.
In appreciation I have attached a photo of the gully in which I found this.
The area is even today not very populated and with other finds of items directly related to the Civil War found by others that I have seen makes me think that it is more likely than not to be from the time that the Union Army had their munition supply depot in the immediate vicinity. In addition there is no dumping of things whatsoever of items from more recent times anywhere around this site; it is like time has stood still.
The Union Army moved the munition supply depot a short distance away from their camp which had become susceptible to Confederate Army cannon fire from their location across a river.

I will have a friend make a base for my find so that I can display it beside bullets found there and will think of the honourable men who served during a difficult time.
