Please Help Identify Uniform

Hello all. My great-great-grandmother's older brother was a major in the 162nd New York (killed while leading a charge at Port Hudson). His name is James Bogart. I have many photographs of him, including this one. He is on the right.

I am trying to find out some information about the person on the left. On the back of the photo are some words and I was hoping to see if anyone could help me figure out any info about his uniform that may help me decipher the words on the back of the photo.

I think the top line says 'Major Bogart' and I think the first word on the second line is 'with' but I can't make out the rest.

Any info that describes the person on the left would be helpful. I appreciate it. Thank you. View attachment 258520
Wow really cool picture.

Better late than never.
I posted this request for help four years ago and then promptly forgot about it. I can't believe I didn't reply. I have no idea what I was thinking at the time. I just stumbled on this site yesterday and read my post and can't fathom why I didn't continue the conversation. My heartfelt apologies to everyone who contributed. I appreciate your efforts.
