Hi - would really appreciate those plans /scale drawings /templates --
as I cannot estimate /guess what size --the parts for a flintlock can be relative to mere fotos
and drawings --no matter how good the quality

the length and width &
thickness of the side plate for example ? trial & error to scale up would be extreme guesswork
from drawings
looking at relative scale fotos of flintlock trigger parts is hopeless -rquire accurate dimensions or templates

really appreciate any help in homebuilding a flintlock replica ---nothing fancy to begin with
regards -bang---apologies ---foto is of a percussion cap model --NOT flintlock

another foto of what I require to build ---
error --wont upload /attach the foto ---
but u get the picture ----guesswork is dumb

OH dear ----
I think there is misunderstanding /confusion here
please read my post /request again carefully --
I have posted it 3 different places on this forum ---

can some kind soul --please send /attach / me the dimensions of a flintlock trigger mechanism parts

pointless trying to find books on different sites you all sent me to ---
they are 11 mb ------some pretty expensive ---
take HOURS to download ---extremely slow internet in the bush here ---sorry -eats up all my data bundles --gone!

all I asked was for a pattern or simple blueprint picture --with all relevant dimensions --ie length of
a flintlock side plate ? thickness ? striker size /length ? frizzen dimensions etc

even a basic sketch ---ok--if someone has a flintlock available ---PLEASE copy the bits -measure the parts in inches or MM---
send me a EVEN A ROUGH drawing ---will be eternally gratefull
have scoured hundreds of books /website for over a year ---NO DIMENSIONS ANYWHERE!
please help
thankyou all for your input ---appreciate enormous ly ---

NB -- see all these great detailed fotos ---( here is one )
but USELESS without DIMENSIONS -- sizes /measurements ---guessing the component pin placement in relation
to one another ----then finding the whole thing locks up /fails to work --after hundreds of hours of cutting /grinding /filing /fitting/forging etc----is dumb -----even a foto with a scale rule next to the flintlock pARTS
WILL BE SUPERB ! ( that's if some kind fella will be prepared to dismantle his treasure ---for me to get a good idea /copy
( not a nice word --copy )?--ok how about borrow the idea --before I blow myself up ?
help!

You are going to have to get a set of blue prints from a source such as Track of the Wolf for detailed dimensions or the book on practical blacksmithing as Unicorn provided, it is free.

The type and dimensions of your flintlock may not be the same from one weapon to another, originals were generally hand made instead of machine made.

If you're worried about blowing yourself up... maybe scratch building a Flintlock is not the job for you.

Thanku so much Johan ---appreciate ---not worried about missing skull parts ---but I have picked up many a dead poacher
with serious holes in head made by ancient flintlock parts blowing up ---lotsa Portuguese made brass muzzle loader--masterpieces I have confiscated -- flintlock -operated by rubber bands --rusty coil springs ---NOT recommended
many thanks ---
what puzzles me --so many modern homemade flintlock parts on many sites --yet /no dimensions ? whats the big secret?
ok --where do I find "Track of the Wolf " ? is it online --a book ?
many thanks----

ok thanx --its a catalog ---
nice if ure rich ---not on my measly pension --
thanks anyway --will search on for blueprints from some kind flintlock fella
regards

er ---feel the power ? sorry Barrycdog---- Google?--
you have me mystified(google--after 3 months-of searching-- has yielded nothing with dimensions -no flintlock blueprints
--maybe you found the holy grail ?--I give up --
registered 2 day with a British forum ---trying to get something over in merry England
still no luck ---patience required in extremis ---will wait

Bang, the gometrics of a fine rock lock are of the utmost importance. Nothing can ruin an otherwise fine rifle than an impropriety inlet lock and barrel, or the positioning of the flash hole. Jim Chambers has a dvd for sale that may be of some help to you, or take a look in Dixie Gun Works catalog. If you still need help I'll see if I can put you in contact with an experienced builder.

BANG, you should go back to the Track of the Wolf online catalog link that Johan sent you. Under Gun Parts>Triggers and trigger plates you can find numerous images in profile and the plates also in flat images. These are easily captured in a new window and may then be scaled up and printed to any desired size. Similarly, the double set triggers are shown in profile, both assembled and as individual kit parts.

You are giving up way too easily, my friend. No one can provide you with dimensions because no one here knows which style or pattern appeals to you. And I don't think anyone is going to be too keen to scale them all for you so you can decide which one appeals to you. You must be willing to invest a little of your own time and ingenuity to derive the dimensions of a trigger assembly that appeals to you. It is not difficult to do. If you can blacksmith the thing, you can surely scale a profile photo to your desired size.

I don't want to seem like I'm being hard on you, but it seems to me you're looking for a spoon fed answer, even after getting some good leads from our members. If, after reading this, you still want a spoon fed answer, try the folks at this site: www.americanlongrifles.org/

Long rifles is all they do over there.

Are you considering building a flint lock assembly from scratch? Not to be a Debbie downer but that's a very challenging task, and if you've never built a rifle before you're setting yourself up for failure. I've built several rifles and even I still get locks pre-assembled, and those are military percussion locks, not finicky rock locks.

If you are just asking about the trigger plate and trigger, those are easy.

This may be what you are looking for, there are several books on that search page that should help you.

Johan Steel ----you are my saviour---applogies for doubting the" track of the wolf "catalog----
I had no idea it was so comprehensive----thanku so much
I have found "craft & practise" by Kit Ravenshear --vol one ( 1995) execellent from first glance
(re-conversion ,screw threads and VOILA !
--assembling locks!
am also impressed with" Building the Pennsylvania rifle" CHAP 8 - the lock
---I built dozens of hunting crossbows and trigger mechs in the last 40 yrs-- etc
designed to withstand 200 LB
DRAW--WEIGHT from car spring blade prods

all parts cut /shaped /forged /case-hardened -here in the African bush --no fancy workshop facilities
so ----
I am NOT spoon fed --never have had it given to me on a plate --
have made everything from scratch /scrap steel ---also have seen some horrific accidents
with others --hunting /building black powder /muzzle loaders /cannons with careless disregard to safety
they are a work of art indeed these ancient lock muzzle -loaders--
but I will NOT BE CARELESS and stupidly attempt to guess dimensions --of lock parts
( my old man was a gun smith ---had many wildcat model hunting rifle conversions -he created)-
(44 yrs of hunting in Zambia --) plus confiscating some astonishly beautiful Arab /Portuguese 18 th cent muskets

is enuf to want to re-create that artwork in brass /wrought iron--
but I am still learning --those locks are not easy --trick shaped springs --
will soldier on ---nothing will deter me -- even the memories of dead poachers with bits of lockplate embedded in eyesocket!
( the Brits have failed to respond to my pestering for blueprints)( saw some impressive wheel /match and flintlock masterpieces in the Imperial War Museum --London)--years ago----but you guys have inspired me with all your
advice and constant input ----really appreciate -- the USA has by far the most enlightening forums--by far--

many thanks--- for all the
help and invaluable advice --- SEE-foto ----THIS FLINTLOCK MECHANISM WILL DO-- or anything close
again ---dimensions badly needed---will try estimating from fotos ---nothing ventured --etc
im-05.jpgCLEARB PIC OF SPARK PAN HOLE IN BREECH ETC.jpg

Well -thanku kindly ---now you see why I will not take the risk of GUESSING the dimensions/thickness of metal parts/spacing etc---plus I do not have modern lathe /milling /shaping machinery etc
all will be hand cut /filed /hammered /tempered --by my hands ( built many x bow triggers --to withstand huge drawweights-over 200 lbs ----but all that pales in comparison to the mighty flintlock --
I have been studying so many fotos --for months --they are truly -as you stated--finely crafted "geometrics"

so I would be really stupid estimating distances between sear .spring -pivot pins --hardness of metal /type /gauge etc
as I live isolated in the bush --all is heath robinson here --hand tools --vice /hacksaw /files lotsa mild steel scrap plate -
angle grinder /bench grinder /handdrill--all solar powered-- lot more than ye ancient musket makers had ?
I am undeterred ----but a simple dimension guide to sizes of components is essential -- -ie a rough blueprint is NOT being SPOONFED!( as one predjudiced fella assumed ----at 65 ---got to be careful!
really need to talk to that experienced flintlock builder you mentioned--to eliminate any crazy techniques /mistakes -that can only
put me back months --its a daunting task --but NOT IMPOSSIBLE -! 18 cent English gentleman /German craftsmen
created masterpieces ---that are still use to kill buffalo /rhino & poor elephant ---right nearby where I live!

so - appreciate YOUR help enormously --

WELL

thanku--appreciate---
- I tried to register /join American longrifles failed ---far too cryptic a registration bureaucracy-
but the verification questions are quite ridiculous !I have no idea what 2f powder is!
and I am not a spammer --also forgot what a leap year is ? 364 days --or 366 days
I refuse to scale from a foto --- pure-logic plus/40 yrs of gunsmithing screams ---dumb !
never been spoon fed --only asked for dimensions to prevent serious damage from weak metal / poor interpretation--

ie some parts are case-hardened ?.--no idea -which1--- will be first time to build a flintlock -
looks very complex in some 3 d views ----just cannot get past reliable./safe/ accurate dimensions -essential! NO ?
You say take a risk and GUESS?- read carefully what Old Hickory warns --clearly --do not take chances
with positioning of components ! ie inlet lock /barrel -flash hole location --must be precise!
how many times have I rebuilt even medieaval cross bow trigger s----that require a hammer to release the sear !
( one mm out --& disaster can ruin months of hard work ---murphies law ?
so ?
shall I run for cover/wear blast helmet-- every time I fire the **** thing --?
rather trust veteran lock -makers/ experienced fellas --who have built flintlocks by trial and ERROR
--try to get it right without a huge struggle--life is short--black powder can be lethal --
regards --B

wow ---finally --a veteran flintlock builder

camp Randal--- member 13714--great to have your wisdom /experience
can you simply add dimensions to this now very complex looking 3D FOTO
its as u say ---quite daunting to build by hand ---but I am determined to get it right

here is the 3d image ---can u help ?
or supply the dimensions for the side plate /hammer frizzen /springs etc

I DARE NOT guess the sizes /metal thickness /lenghth breadth etc
please bwana ---a sketch will do --even rough ?
thanku -- BANG

OK -- HERE is another 3D COLORFUL VIEW
minus any dimensions ---its the reverse side I think--some parts such as frizzen /hammer --vary in thickness
and the flashpan has to be close to the breech hole I assume -very close ---all quite challenging--but NOT
impossible--not much space for error--what IS THE MAX DIAM of the breech fire hole?--

ok --Camp RANDAL ARMOURY -- please show me how ---to make my first flintlock --would be a fine xmas gift
thanku so much ---everyone --for going the extra mile--
