If you want a razor which dulls quickly, get that stainless blade from C&C. If not, look for an antique or pay for a legitimate single blade razor. (Think barber shop grade.) Mine is an antique Sheffield blade. Best to use it occasionally at home and keep up the practice. A nonpracticed hand with a sharp enough blade running across one's own throat is the thing of horror flicks.
If youŕe going to shave with a cutthroat razor, you really have to practice all the time and keep the blade super sharp. Just using it once a month or so when youŕe reenacting and keeping it in your gear wont be adequate. If thatś the challenge youŕe up for, go for it! I used to carry one in my gear, along with a tinned iron shaving mug, etc. When I cut myself, it bled for HOURS! The best question I ever heard from spectators came from 2 little boys who asked Ïs that real blood?¨ I decided that holding a dangerous weapon close to my skin in unfamiliar settings where I may be a distance from adequate medical care seemed like a poor decision. I still carry the mug and brush, but I duck into my tent and finish the job with a disposable razor. Not trying to influence you here, just my experience. I know other people who have successfully included shaving with a cutthroat into their impressions, but they use them at home too.
