Orbs at Devils Den

Yeah, I to have been to Gettysburg and it is quite an experience. I mean, that place just felt strange. It gave off an aura of sadness, and I've seen quite a few ghosts there, and even talked to one. Got told to leave Devil's Den by a Texan. Possesive people aern't they?

We Texan's hold sacred our places of battle Even from beyond the grave.

My first thought was dust or dried water. But then the "orbs" would be in the same place with every photo. They appear to me to be in different places for each one.

Sorry to be late to the party on this one, but I just ran across this post. If you take all 3 photographs and layer them, you will see that the dust flare is indeed in the same place and configuration in each photograph. The fact that Gettysburg032.jpg has been cropped makes it a bit more difficult to see unless you actually composite them in Photoshop.

Very normal, especially when there is a difference in air temp and camera temp, coupled with dust in or on the lens. Oly's exhibit this quite often, which is why many "ghost hunters" like to carry Oly's. They get a lot of "orb" pictures that way. It's a means of self validation for them. I don't think that you were trying to dupe anyone here. I just think you let your imagination get the best of you. A dark night on the field and you get something odd in your pictures. It does seem creepy at first.

Orbs

A buddy of mine gets these orbs also at the battlefield in Coffeeville, MS but only on the day of the battle (Dec 5th). Strange.

I just got back from Gettysburg and I wanted to share a few of my brother's thoughts.

First of all, my brother is a professional photographer. That is, for a living he takes pictures and has won awards for his photographs and has had his photos appear in books, Japanese magazines, major newspapers, and etc. So he knows a thing about cameras.

Second of all, my brother believes in ghosts. In fact when he goes to Civil War cities, he stays at haunted hotels from the period and asks to stay in the "most haunted" rooms.

So my brother the professional photographer who believes in ghosts recently told me the following on our trip to Gettysburg:

1) Orbs are natural phenomenon. In fact my brother showed me how he could recreate "orbs" and other strange light images. Basically anything from dust specs on the lens to mist to falling sugar/salt grains to a light hitting the lens itself or a flying bug can reflect light from a flash or other light source and appear to be orbs or other unusual lights.

2) You never heard about orbs before strong bulb flash photography.

3) The camera only picks up light that is visible to the human eye. That should be a tip off if you need a camera with a light source at night to observe it - because you need to add the dimension of the cameras falibilities.

4) Ruining the atmosphere of a battlefield with constant flashes interupting the peace of the night is disrespectful to the soldiers who died there.

Just his opinions that he shared with me last week, I for the most part agree with him.
