On a lighter side.....

I read "Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" and was fascinated by them as a kid. Rereading them recently, I couldn't get into them at all. Either they, or I, haven't aged well.

It's very interesting to re-read books you read as a kid or a teenager, as an adult. I read Sometimes A Great Notion when I was about 17 and it was all about the anti-authority thing, don't step on me, rebellion against the man and all that. I re-read it when I was 50 and...a WHOLE different book! Had to check I had the right one! Same thing with the Three Musketeers. Holy Cow! All that was in there?

Cats are great. I have some very good travellers who love it as much as dogs!
So true, -- a few short trips followed by longer ones gets them in the grove. The develop their own routine even in cramped and new places. I couldn't be more proud of Goliath and Sunshine!

Ah, maturity! Why does it have to come so late in life!

Ain't it the truth! Ah, yes. Youth is wasted on the young.

While I love the books and movies of LotR and also the Hobbit movies I really couldn´t find anything great in the Hobbit books. Strange thing.

Hah, with me it's just the opposite! I first disliked the LotR films, then read the books, bought the extended version DVD boxed set and have seen them countless times afterwards ...
I started reading Tolkien with the "The Hobbit" (in English) and liked it, but don't like the films. Peter Jackson tries to squeeze 3 parts out of that small book to squeeze money 3 times out of the audience ...

As for the books, to me they were:
  • Das Klassenfest / Uwe Kant
  • Buddenbrooks / Thomas Mann
  • Everything by Theodor Fontane
  • Everything by Gwen Bristow
  • Gone with the Wind / Margaret Mitchell
  • Sense and Sensibility / Jane Austen
  • Pride and Prejudice / Jane Austen
