I have a bayonett I picked up yesterday. Does it still carry germs from the blood from whatever people the object my have slain?
Foolish question, I know, but still...
The germs part creeps me out.
I love the history of it!
It was on my bucket list of antiques I wanted to get.
Not necessarily a Civil War one, but that was a bonus!
I'm also after a Civil War saddle one day. That's on my bucket list too.
Union, of course.

I like what I like.
I have very strange tastes, I love antiques!!!
I think I belong in the 1800's.
Anyone else have a roll top desk, canopy bed, mirror dresser, and a floor length mirror in their room?
Am I crazy?

The chance of your bayonet actually killing someone are slim. I would say the only problem you will have is if you stick yourself and get Tetanus.

bayonets were not used very often ....more likely to have been stuck in the ground as a candle holder,or tin opener

I had to research wheither it was a "J" or not. Turns out it was a "U" for United States!
I thought it belonged to a man named J.S.!
I picked it up at my local farmers market/ flea market on Saturday. First day open due to the corona virus.
Got it for, what I think is a steal at $45
What do you think it's worth?
Did I get a good bargain?

Socket bayonets seem to be regularly priced around $75-$100; however, as with any antique the mantra is condition, condition, condition. Yours looks a little rough, and from the pictures maybe pushing relic condition - that would bring the value/price down, unless it's a verified battlefield relic, preferably from a famous battle like Gettysburg and not merely found in some obscure camp site.
