Brass Napoleon Award New guy needs help identifying items

That sounds like a great idea Package4! I will definitely do that. I think one of the weird little things that I might have a hard time finding would be an original canteen sling for my bullseye canteen that currently doesn't have one. It isn't necessary, but I would like to complete it down the road if possible.

Here is a good candidate. The USMC shoulder plate. I will need the measurements of the outline from top to bottom

I like both, but I feel like the USMC plate might cost a bit more if it is anything like WW1 and WW2 USMC militaria when comparing their prices to US Army items. Do you happen to know how hard (or easy) these are to find?

The last US plate I know of was sold by the Horse Soldier, or maybe they still have it, but these are not cheap, they go for around $1,800-$2,500 depending on condition and provenance.

The hardest part of that is most I see are still on the canteen. Look on the spout and see if there is a makers mark.

The only markings on the neck that I am able to see are "PHILADA" and "R H.GRA..." It looks like there were probably other letters after GRA but have been worn away. Any Idea on what any of that means?

Well I am certainly glad to be here and I hope that I can possibly meet these fine individuals some day at one of the bigger shows, perhaps the Middle Tennessee Civil War show if any of them go to it. I have only been once and that was a year or two ago, but I plan on going back with some money saved up to add to my growing collection.
You are more than welcome to join us on our annual pilgrimage this year we are going to Vicksburg.

That sounds like a blast, but I do not know if I will be able to go this year since I have been helping my mother through her whole breast cancer situation and I know that they will be planning a surgery some time in the fall (they haven't scheduled it yet because they are still waiting to see how is recovering from her last surgery last Wednesday so everything is still up in the air). I will try and make it if at all possible. I know my uncle would love to go so we might be able to go if everything works out with the surgery planning.

If you could post photos I believe it maybe J. HALL ROHRMAN PHILA

I think what I would do here would be to obtain a very authentic reproduction until an original may turn up. I think I may have only seen one original surplus sling for a canteen. That model had a cloth sling.

I think that sounds like a very good idea since it will still function the same way as an original without turning over every single rock over to find one. Do you have any recommendations on where to go to find one? I live down in Tullahoma, TN and I have been to the Blockade Runner over in Wartrace so I could see if they have anything that could fit the requirements.
