Brass Napoleon Award New guy needs help identifying items

Thank you Billw12280 for the information. I plan on buying the book that ucvrelics mentioned to get a good foundation of knowledge of these items. I will probably be purchasing many other reference books over the coming years to add because knowledge is power and I gotta work on a personal library. Haha
The book he posted is great. Starting out it is a good idea to spend more on reference material than items. It will save you a lot of heartache. That's not to say you won't still make mistakes, we all have been there. The important thing to do when you make those mistakes is pick yourself up and dust off but learn from the experience.

Here is a close up. It looks as if there were 2 different plates on it at one time note the lower hole.

I like the way you think! But I have absolutely no idea how hard those are going to be to find as well as how much it will cost.
You don't worry about the money, thats just a way people like to keep score, I prefer the trill of the hunt, cost be dam

There may have been additional markings on it at one time that could help identify the plate. I don't know if it works on leather but night vision (goggles, cameras, even some baby monitors)can bring out otherwise invisible or hard to read markings. I know it works on certain fabrics, canvas, etc. If you have true night vision check it out, it couldn't hurt.

Here is a good candidate. The USMC shoulder plate. I will need the measurements of the outline from top to bottom

Woah, you are amazing at finding all of this information. Much better than me probably since I have no idea where to even start aside from searching the forums for links.
I haven't gotten that ballsy yet, but curiousity will get to me sooner or later.
I certainly strive to be as knowledgeable
Thank you
I like the way you think!
I use those experiences as expensive lessons to learn from and continue moving forward.
thank you very much
Thank you very much
Im going out on a limb @Taylor Ratliff to say that you are the most gracious, humble, and pleasant new member I have ever had the pleasure to welcome! Welcome to CivilWarTalk! Happy to have you aboard.

Well thank you very much for the very kind words. I am just so happy that I was able to find this group. You guys are absolutely the best.
All those guys that are helping you are great! They love their relics and know their stuff. They'd rather talk about old box plates and bullets than most anything. They'll give you all the info you ever wanted and some you might not have known you wanted.:D They're good people and you're in excellent hands. Again, welcome to the Forum. We are happy you joined.

Well I am certainly glad to be here and I hope that I can possibly meet these fine individuals some day at one of the bigger shows, perhaps the Middle Tennessee Civil War show if any of them go to it. I have only been once and that was a year or two ago, but I plan on going back with some money saved up to add to my growing collection.

Yes
It does look to be that way, good catch guys. So do you think that it would be appropriate to purchase an original breast eagle for it and call it good until I come across a good militia plate to take it's place?
yes, I think that would be an excellent placeholder and not overly expensive. Before you buy, post pix here so that we can help you buy an original and not a repro.
