One of my most prized family heirlooms are two Civil War tin-type photos. When I got them passed down to me, both pictures were put inside a case intended for just one, and the case was missing its protective glass. For years I have been telling myself I am going to fix that. I finally did two months ago and ordered one new case and one new pane of glass. They arrived yesterday. It felt so good to give each of them their own case and their own protective glass. The 160-year old original case is on top. The new reproduction in on bottom.

If anyone is interested I got the replacement from Modern Day Antique.

That looks amazing! Where did you purchase the case? Was it expensive? I absolutely love the finished product! Thanks for sharing!!! Those are some GREAT images!!

I thought the price was kinda high, but I had to remind myself that each one is individually handmade.

Fantastic images @Discipulus ! and the repro case is beautiful. It looks very well made. Glad you got the images under glass and in their own individual cases. I love the flag in the background and the uniformed and armed infantryman is awesome. Are they ancestor images? They're absolutely wonderful! Thank you for sharing them.

Are they ancestor images?
I am 99% sure the soldier in the bottom picture is my 2xg-grandfather Charles H. Chesley (1828-1905). The top picture I am not sure at all? I am hoping it is my 2xg-grandfather Henry Walker, Sr.

Soon computers will let us know, using facial recognition. The technology is already here, we are just waiting for wide application.
