Dave Powell and I are pleased to announce the release of our book, Tullahoma: The Forgotten Campaign that Changes the Course of the Civil War, June 23-July 4, 1863, by Savas-Beatie. This is the first and only modern detailed tactical study of one of the most fascinating campaigns of the Civil War. By brilliant execution of a brilliant strategic plan, William S. Rosecrans maneuvered Braxton Bragg and his Army of Tennessee completely out of Tennessee with 1,500 casualties and no major battle. Col. John Wilder and his Lightning Brigade found fame in this campaign.

If anyone is interested in acquiring a copy, please drop me a line by private message.

Jefferson Davis called Rosecrans a tactical genius and the most qualified General in the north. He didn't elaborate in his memoirs, but seems maybe Davis wasn't wrong based on the description of your book. Congrats on the release of your new book.

Thank you!

Think George Henry Thomas might have something to say about that , But yea Wilder does not get enough credit for saving Rosecrans from certain doom maybe at a certain bridge thanks to his Spencer's.

As for Davis judgement on tactical genius ill pass.

Good luck with the book Eric.

I did another book that address Wilder and that bridge, by the way.....

...and let's not forget Robert H.G. Minty!

Enjoyed your Chickamauga book, Eric (as well as Dave's trilogy). Will P.M. you if I can figure out how.

Just want to congratulate you on what I hope proves to be another success story for you. Do you ever sleep ?

I have two of your books on my shelf (one you signed for me in 2016) and I thought I'd just say that I'm very picky about what books I keep (limited space). I'd guess I've read three times as many volumes as what's on my shelves (now maybe 120 books and a file cabinet full of printed material from articles, etc.). So you're scoring well !

I'm flattered! Thanks.

I write in the evenings and on the weekends. It's my escape from my job.

Sounds like a book to grab in a few weeks! Finding good material on Tullahoma is tough, plus it gets no respect. I've always liked what Rosecrans said in a telegram back to Washington after they got onto him telling him to basically win the war and drive Bragg back with a big battle after Gettysburg and Vicksburg:

"You do not appear to observe the fact that this noble army has driven the rebels from Middle Tennessee, I beg on behalf of this army that the War Department may no overlook so great an event because its not written in letters of blood."

Tullahoma deserves a lot more respect than it gets. So does Rosecrans to a point.

Obviously, I agree completely. Piecing this story together was a lot of fun.

Oh great, another book I need to read....lol. Is Hoover's Gap covered in this work? I'm going to have to PM you and get this. I also need to get Holding the Line as well. Anything that covers Wilder is a must for me.

Congrats on your new book. Looks like a good read. I spent a lot of time digging the CS winter camps in Tullahoma back in the 80's.

Of course it is! Wilder's seizing and holding of Hoover's Gap was the linchpin to the success of the campaign.
