Hi all,
I have a excavated spike tommahawk circa 1770's that I need to get stabalized and preserved.. Does anyone know of someone that does this? Any help would be appreaciated...

Hi Wilber, I can't help you on preserving but I can give you a website (treasurenet.com/forums) and do a search. It's a metal detecting website but it's possible to find the answer there, I hope it helps, there's a sub topic for cleaning and preservation near the bottom.

That was my first thought. Museums in Albany, NYC, and Boston should be helpful (although they might ask you if you want to donate the thing!).

Thats what I'm thinking, I've seen it done once but not familiar enough to try it myself.... I recovered it several years ago, and thought I had preserved it, but examined it today and not holding up like I thought it would..
