I inherited this musket when my Grandfather passed away in 2008. We didn't even know he had it until we were cleaning out his house. He was born and raised in SC. Can someone help me find any info on it? The only identifying marking is in one of the photos of a hand engraved number. Thanks in advance!

There were many small gunsmith that made these hunting rifles. IMHO it was not used in the CW. Most of there gunsmith got their barrels from a barrel maker. If you remove the barrel there may be a barrel makes name on the bottom.
