McKeever Cartridge Box ID help

Hello all,

I have a McKeever Cartridge Box but I'm confused by the identifying marks.
I thought these were only made from the 1870's on, but this one has the number "63" under the unit info, "1 CAV N.Y.I."
I'm not at all an expert on these and I'm hoping someone can help with my confusion.

I would hazard a guess the markings relate to the 1st Cavalry Regiment, New York National Guard, Troop I. With 63 being the running number for that accoutrement in the company's arsenal...
