Need a book recommendation ...

... for a good book about the abolitionists and their movement. I know a little about them but not much. I know they were about a number of things other than abolition and I seem to remember that they were, for instance, anti-immigrant because many immigrants were Catholic and drank (but might be wrong about that). Anyway, I'd like to know who these people were and what they believed. Anybody have a recommendation ?
