Navy Birthday.

On October 13 it was the 234th birthday of the Us Navy. During the Civil War did the Navy even think about celebrating the 1775 founding of the Navy?

Too bad it's a Russian ship, the "battle cruiser" Pyotr Velikiy or Peter the Great.
 
Sigh... yeah, I saw that. Stock photo probably located by some staffer that either couldn't tell the difference or thought no one else could. :: facepalm ::

ETA: A shame, really, because I think the Arleigh Burke-class destroyers are about as good-looking a ship as has served in the post-WW2 Navy. I think it's that rake to the mast that does it. Anyway... would have been a much better choice.
