Mystery Gun

I don't mind being used, but not answering questions that'd only help your own efforts is incomprehensible
Well, to be fair, they did say they were helping with with a deceased friend's estate and they were starting here. I suppose it shouldn't surprise us that they moved on since about the best we could give was that it was an amalgamation of pieces parts and we kept asking more questions. There may have been a time deadline involved. It will be interesting to see where it might surface and with what information.

You completely missed my point - they were commentating after I posted my question.

Come to think of it, I answered YOUR question in post #14.

Yes, you did answer my question. I suspected that it was some type of safety device, but not having seen a similar safety device on a flintlock or percussion lock before, I didn't want to jump to any conclusions.

As for bore size, it was suggested that the pistol was made from a cut down rifle. To me the barrel looked thicker than you would expect on an average handgun where you would be shooting at something fairly close range and not require as much powder as a long gun either rifle or smooth bore. The barrel seems nowhere as thick as a rifle, maybe a smooth rifle? Or maybe too thin walled for that? It seems thicker than a musket. I have no real knowledge of handguns.

I'm not an expert or even a knowledgeable amateur. I can only make observations and hope people can tell me what I'm looking at.

And proper etiquette would have been for you to acknowledge that.

Again, she/they were asked to do a simple task that would have given a near- definitive answer.
I apologize for my lack of etiquette. I was born that way and it hasn't gotten much better since then. Fortunately I have little interaction with people.
