Not a real page turner. Still a good reference book.

How else would I know what this Confederate shell is?

A Confederate Schenkl, many were made in Texas and recovered from a limber that overturned into a creek. The Confederates couldn't master paper mache' so they used wooden sabots instead. That book was the first artillery book that I ever owned and it sparked my interest in Civil War artillery. Jack Melton is still very active in the Civil War Artillery field and his website is www.civilwarartillery.com. It is an excellent site and full of useful information.

I got to learn more about artillery shells. To be honest I did not know much about Civil War artillery shells. Still it was dry reading to me.

Field Artillery Projectiles of the American Civil War by Thomas Dickey and Peter george is my favorite

I have to agree, its my favorites as well.

I was at a used book store and was not going to purchase it, but the cost was low for an almost unread book with the plastic cover. I figured It would make a nice reference book for me.

Amen to that!! My favorite as well, specifically the 1994 edition. I mailed to Pete George a shell I found for him to clean and sent my copy of his book for him to sign too. He not only signed the book, but also went through the book and added and edited things in it to bring it up to date!!
