Can you help me in making my impression more authentic?
I would love constructive criticizm... I know I need new trousers & better suspenders... I know my trousers are a little low....
Thanks folks

I'm not a re-enactor but I'll share these first impressions (consider me your audience who doesn't know you from Adam):

The brogans are very good - keep those;
the shirt is very period - keep that;
the hat is good;
the coat looks good to me but I'm not knowledgeable as to authenticity of it - I like that you've buttoned only the top one (lots of photos like that);
need different pants - the zipper is not period (need ones with buttons). fit and color doesn't seem right either;
not sure about the strap - don't think I've seen ones with the stripe but, again, can't really say if it's authentic.

At a distance I'd be convinced.

Hope that's helpful.

Thank you sir, but that isn't a zipper it's a buttoned fly.
That whiteness is the cotton that the buttons are secured with.
I am actually selling those trousers & buying a pair of Stonybrook SA
sky blue trousers... I'm just waiting for Chris Sullivan to
cut the trousers down from a 36 to a 34.
The sack coat is made by John
Wedeward & top quality i'd say.

Thanks again folks

Very good. It just looked like a zipper in the photo. Still, wrong color methinks so it's swell that you are trading them.

Lookin' good ! Carry on Sergeant.

yankee hoorah,

I am a reenactor along with my grandson, and I tell you, your hat is excellent. I am a firm believer that there is a hat for every reenactor that gives him "the" look that nails his impression. Yours is perfect.

I also like the upgrades you are planning for yourself.

Sincerely,
Unionblue

I'm not an expert on gear, so my amateur impression isn't worth much technically. But I wanted to say that it's wonderful to see a young reenactor. When I look at period photos, what strikes me most is how young many soldiers were, and that's rarely represented today. I think you do a great job evoking those soldiers!

Looks like you've got a lot of approval out here. Come back with your new trousers and let the uniform experts have another look. I, too, like the hat very much, but don't know enough to give any advice about the rest of your clothing. I agree with Pvt.Shattuck and Allie that your youth and build are terrific assets. You cop a real nice, confident, convincing physical attitude, too!

I think you have an excellent start; feel free to fall in w/ this Sgt any day of the week.

You don't get any better than Wedeward & the Stony Brook trousers are an excellent choice as is the Sekela gear.

Have you acquired a weapon & leathers as of yet?

No sir, im too young to handle a weapon as of now. On the 30th I turn 13
Start saving up now. Let your family know what you want now and how much you will need and in a few years or sooner you'll have enough for a good custom M1861 or P53 that you can both re-enact with and be proud to own for a lifetime.

And don't worry about calling me sir, I come from a long line of enlisted men.

Thank you for posting this picture of yourself! Its great to see a reenactor who has such a keen interest in the CW, takes care in the impression he presents, has such nice manners, and is such an eloquent communicator. I have to admit I have read your posts before and assumed you were an adult - an old one like the rest of us. :giggle: I agree with Allie and everyone else that your youthfulness adds realism to the impression. I am not a reenactor or an expert, by any stretch, but I think you look GREAT! :thumbsup: Please continue to post photos so we can keep up with your impression along the way.
