YH... you look great son.. far ahead of most folks that have been in the hobby for years.. especially the drive, ambition, attention to detail, and attitude...

Another thing to remember... Army clothing came in two sizes... Too Small... and Too Big.... Don't concern yourself so much that the item has a perfect fit... many of the originals didn't either... We commonly see soldiers in period photos who's clothing has that habitual baggy appearance... an issued size one too big... or they lost weight while in service... also was a common fashion habit at the time too... Having something a size or two too large isn't uncommon... besides your still growing also... allows you to retain use of something a little longer too... You hit the next growing spurt and poof... next spring cant get your arm in your old jacket... or you find your trouser leg suddenly ends half way up your chins...

Brogans and other gear... wear it... put the brogans on if your cutting grass... yard work... whatever to help break them in.. Then when you hit the campaign trail they will fit and feel better... Soldiers wore their uniform and gear everyday... use helps develop that authentic worn in, but not worn out look that so many reenactors lack... Helps give that little extra convincing appearance of having been in the field a little while... A little bit haggard, grubby, baggy appearance typically helps the credibility of an impression....

Not sure I would completely discard the dark blue trousers. add a pair of sky blue ,but there are plenty of scenarios where those dark blue trousers will work.

I like the different dye lots from the dark blue trousers and sack coat. Over the course of 10 or 15 events, one of my file mates and I had a running game of "how many shades of blue can you spot in the column?" Generally, we could identify at least 7 different shades of blue (although blue is a relative term from purple to faded black) for sack coats, 20 or more different shades of sky blue trousers and three or four different dark blue trousers (In the Regulars, we wear dark blue trousers more than most.)

Forage caps is where it really gets interesting. Marshall and I once counted three forage caps which were the same hue in a formation of three or four companies while we were waiting to move into position at Cedar Creek a few years back. That is about 200 different shades of dark blue. In bright sunlight, you can really see the differences.

Lots of variables on the consistency front; what dye was used, what is the wool content and what manner of weave is there in the cloth, how old is the garment, how much exposure to sun and weather, are the items washed or dry cleaned etc.

Looking good Bud, keep up the good work.

Thank you sir, but that isn't a zipper it's a buttoned fly.
That whiteness is the cotton that the buttons are secured with.
I am actually selling those trousers & buying a pair of Stonybrook SA
sky blue trousers... I'm just waiting for Chris Sullivan to
cut the trousers down from a 36 to a 34.

The sack coat is made by John
Wedeward & top quality i'd say.

Thanks again folks

Is this Chris Sullivan the former Commander in Chief of the SCV or someone else with the same name?

What unit/time period are you aiming for? I know you mentioned Bentonville, sorry if I missed more.
Im in the 121st OVI which is what the dark blues were for. My unit was issued them in 1862 & I know they were issued later in the war, so I wear them. I plan to change the dark blues for sky blues to pull off a more common 121st Ohio impression. Plus it works well for USCT.
