My First Trapdoor

I have a Model 1896 Krag-Jorgensen with a raised cartouche like that.

I think he told me that Springfield used a pressure steamer. It "supercharged" the process - the one raised dent is so proud of the wood that it looks the size of a pea sitting on the wood!

I saw the title and my first reaction was "Oh he bought a new old house with a trap door to the attic or basement". After reading further I asked my husband if he knew what a trap door was and he said, "Long underwear?". You can tell we are not gun people!

These are great rifles and very shootable. Once you get into them they will grab you and you will want another one. M1873 got me interested in other Indian War arms and buffalo rifles. I never thought I would be pulled away from the ACW arms, but the trapdoor started a whole new interest for me.

Before you shoot it, I would let a gun smith take the barrel off and look in for rust pockets. You won't be sorry.

Took this Springfield on the range, loaded some 300gr cast bullets with 11gr of smokeless powder (Titegroup). Rifle performed really well and had pretty good groups at 100yds

Which one was the first shot?

first round of shots (taped) was from my Marlin 1895SS, just wanted to check my reloads in stronger action first before putting them through trapdoor
