Confederate Memorial Monument erected in 1902 over the mass grave of Confederate dead gathered from the battlefield at Perryville, Kentucky; today is the anniversary of the Oct. 8, 1862 Confederate tactical but Union strategic victory. The original creation of the state park on a portion of the sprawling battlefield here was to protect the monument and the small stone enclosure seen here around the burial mound containing the remains gathered from across the field.

Typical sentimental verse covers the sides of the monument, the only significant one erected at Perryville.

It is believed these are only a portion of the dead and that many, both Union and Confederate, continue to lie in unmarked graves. For more about the Battle of Perryville, please see: https://www.civilwartalk.com/threads/the-battle-of-perryville-kentucky-october-8-1862.139216/

That should probably also be in Bill's thread on Confederate Cemeteries because the monument stands atop a burial mound or mass grave of the mentioned Confederates who died at Tyler in the hospitals or garrisons here because Tyler, though fairly small, was nevertheless East Texas' largest town and a principal hub. I've been to the cemetery several times but don't have any good photos taken there, so these and any others you have would be a good representation of it.

I will do that. I was a clear, cold and breezy day when I visited there in January last year. It was exhilirating.

I thought I'd photographed the graves of Gov. Hubbard and artillery Captain James P. Douglas but I can't find them; maybe I only imagined I'd done it!?

Confederate monument at Olustee Battlefield Fl. during last year's reenactment. View attachment 206819 View attachment 206818
Olustee is one of the very few important battlefields I've never visited. I seem to recall having an opportunity to do so during the annual event there while I was filming Glory but I think I chose to do something else instead. There was a little filming done there but it was inconsequential and didn't make it into the finished film but can be seen in a documentary on The Making of... which is a bonus feature on the Deluxe Edition.

Hopefully they'll have a good turnout for the event this year coming up for the 155th. Was a little off on numbers this past year but still a great event. Alot of the groups that come from North Georgia and further north all said they got creamed with the flu and hurt their numbers. One unit camped next to us always brings about 25 guys only had 3, the rest down with the flu that was going around last winter.
