Seems the Mexican forces arms in the Mexican War we're generally considered poor quality. They had bought large numbers of 30 yr old British muskets, which would been almost 50 yrs old by ACW.

What would US forces have done with all the captured arms in Mexican War, if they were brought back would they have found there way into state arsenals. Would any have been used in ACW, refurbished or not?

Note by any, discounting my daddy brought this rifle back from Mexican war and I'm enlisting with it, but were any brigades or Regt armed with them.

The Mexican government had bought 90,000-110,000 India Pattern muskets in 1826. These guns were only a decade or so old at the time, which was newer than anything they could have likely purchased as surplus from other governments, especially the US. In 1842 the Mexican government bought 20,000 new muskets made up and marked specially for them. These guns were a hybrid of the 1802 New Land Pattern and the P1839 and while still flintlock muskets were equipped with Hanoverian bayonet clasps.

I owned one of the 1842 purchase guns a while back and spent a fair amount of time researching them and never found any records of them being stored in US Arsenals. Presumably, if they had been, they would have been slated for sale in the late 1840s and 1850s along with other old and damaged arms that the US Government did not think it worth hanging onto.
