Marshals Badge?

Unfortunately these old badges were reproduced in mass over the decades for the collector market. So anything without a strong solid provenance I would heed caution on. The back pin type used would on this one would place it around 1900 or so... but the repros used the same type also.

I would contact the Arizona State Police that may have a historian or, to direct you to the proper professionals.

Several Metropolitan Police Department "early" shields --not considered a 'badge or star' until later.
The MPDC Badge/Shield went through several changes. The Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D. C., was founded 1864.

Another area to perhaps inquire about this particular badge/star/shield; for the Arizona Territory, is to contact the U. S. Marshal's Office - perhaps go local and have them get them to access their historian and see what they may come up with.

I know these things were reproduced (I had a reproduction when I was still a kid), but I'm hoping you will follow the advice above. Wouldn't it be great if yours turned out to be genuine? Or at least an early reproduction? Even if it's a repro, it's still kind of a fun thing for your friend to have.
