What is this? Markings on NCO sword

I recently have picked up a m1840 NCO sword manufactured in 1864. Made by Ames on one side of the blade but what does the HDH stand for over the production year and on top of the guard? There is also a JH on the outer part of the guard. What are some of

these markings?
