Hello,

I would like to find more information about this note.

I did some research and found they manufactured for the Confederate army.

Any link would be great.

Thank you.

Magee and George was a noted military manufacturer from the New Orleans area. This firm produced over 50,000 sets of infantry accouterments in only 16 months; until the fall of New Orleans to the Federal army.

I wish I knew more about Confederate money, but I don't. It is interesting, and I like the notes, I just know nothing about them. Someone here will know about them for sure. You might have to wait a bit. Someone will be along though. Hello and welcome to the talk forum from Southeast Missouri on the banks of the muddy Mississippi River.

Basically a promissory currency note issued by a local merchant.

Small denominational currency notes and fractional currency were at times rather scarce. Hence... State Treasuries, Local Towns/Cities, Local Banks, and even many merchants printed and issued their own notes to make change with.

It was not uncommon that they made use of sheets of unissued or blank bank note printings from others including local banks such as this was. Backs of which were typically not printed on... turn the page and reprint the new on the blank back of the old sheets, cut out and use. Not unusual to find.

@ccorr, welcome to CivilWarTalk.

As I'm related . . . albeit distantly . . . to this branch of my family, I'm always interested in any new information about this manufacturer.

Thanks @ucvrelics.com !
