This Ira Jenkins was a resident of Blount County, Alabama. Does that help at all?

1860 Blount County Census shows 15 year old Ira living with 11 year old brother John W.....The birth years for john W. that you gave me make him 11 in 1860, so I am fairly certain this is the man!!....Now, on to finding Military records for Ira.....I also wonder if his father, John (age 44) ever enlisted. If he did, most likely he would have been discharged at some point for being "over the age of conscription".

You are so generous! I'm totally going to get back to you. I've been searching for my CW ancestor for years, He came from Georgia, survived the war and moved to Texas. He had such a common name that he has been difficult to trace. I've stormed down half a dozen blind alleys, thinking I found him then being disappointed. The search originates from a CW era photo of him in uniform, labelled on the back as "Silver War," (ha!) my ancestors not apparently being long on literacy! However, I'm going to do some more homework (it's been a few years since I last dug into the search) and see if there are any new leads on Ancestry.com before I burden you.
