Lookups Offered

Hi there: I'm willing to do lookups for free. I have access to Ancestry, Genealogybank, Fold3, Newspapers.com, and Newspaperarchive. I am also in the Madison, WI area and go to the Wisconsin Historical Archives from time to time. Please message @Keiri with your request, as usual, more detail is better than less. If anyone else wants to post their willingness to do lookups in their area or online, I suggest you add it to this post that way others can find out. Thanks to the admins for letting me do this!

Remember, this is a volunteer! Please understand this member is doing this as a kind gesture, please allow some time for them to get back to you. Have fun!

Ami
How does the process of looking up someone's Civil War ancestry work and how much does it usually cost? I know that I had at least 1 ancestor who was in the war, but I don't know their name. I also want to see if I had any other ancestors that fought in the War Between the States. Do you really do CW ancestry lookups for free?

Normally we don't help much with genealogy to that extent, but if you have a name a number of us have access to Ancestry.com and Fold3 and can look up their service records and such.

Thanks. Laura Elliott already jumped on the case. But if you are still free, there is another one that interests me: Col. Stephen Thruston of the 3rd NC Infantry Regiment.
What type of info are you wanting?

The reason I ask is because if it is military it will be easier to search on Fold3 instead of Ancestry.

Wasn't this the same guy we looked up stuff on before? I sent newspaper clippings?

No, a different guy but the same regiment. I've mentioned Thruston before on the site in the hopes that somebody might know how to find the originals of accounts he had written of various battles.

I hope you are still available to do looks ups, and I greatly appreciate it!

I am looking for the parents of my Great Grandfather (on my paternal grandmother's side) to see if I have Confederate Soldiers.....
The name of my great grandfather is Columbus Jefferson Jenkins, born 1888 in Mississippi, died sometime in the 1950's in Lauderdale County, TN......His wife, born in Alabama, was Rose (or Rosa) Haygood, born in Alabama. I don't remember when or where she died.....As a side note, my great grandfather, Columbus, was a moonshiner and played the banjo (I have his banjo!)

I have several relatives fighting for the Union (from TN. Henry V. Flowers, and his wife's brothers! Henry's wife's name was Margret Curtis. Henry's Mom's name was Jane Partridge) on the "Flowers" side (6th TN Cavalry, under Col. Fielding Hurst), so I am going to start researching the "Jenkins" from my grandmother.....then, branch off and look for "Haygoods".....I suppose I should also look for brothers, uncles, etc of Margret Curtis...
I appreciate your time!
