I recently acquired this newspaper and wondering if anyone has more info about it. From my research online I can only find one mention of it at the library of congress and I believe they have Vol 1 , No 2. This is Vol 1 , No 1. Not the greatest of shape. Any information would be helpful. It's not in the greatest condition but I suppose not terrible for being paper that is that old. Is it worth getting appraised? Is it worth finding a new home at a museum? I can take more pictures. Curious as to how to take care of it and not have it destroyed. It obviously holds quite a bit of history. Thanks!

Below is a link to just about everything you need to know about how to preserve an old newspaper. Your newspaper was edited by Rev. N. Shuman, Chaplain of the 9th Missouri Infantry as a brigade/regimental paper for consumption by the troops. It is "rare" in the sense that perhaps only a couple of editions were ever produced. It is not overly desireable in the collecting world as it contains general news and does not commemorate or highlight any singular, significant event of the war.

Enjoy your 1861 newspaper for what it is------a piece of Civil War ephemera. I would not seek to appraise it. In my opinion the value is $50 - $100 retail.
