Lincoln Lincoln Three Night Mini Series

Twenty years ago, I felt the History Channel used to do a decent job when providing us with content about our favorite subject which is the American Civil War. They had a wonderful series titled Civil War Journal and they also had a show in 2007 called Sherman's March. But since then, the network has kind of gone off the rails and started feeding us a hodge podge of non historical tripe. So nowadays I take anything broadcast on the History Channel with a grain of salt. But that might change. Starting on Sunday, Feb. 20, the HC will air a three night mini series on Abraham Lincoln. I look forward to this event, and hopefully it will mark a return to what the network used to do well - teach us our history in an entertaining and informative manner. I thought they did a decent job on the Grant mini-series. It was at the level of depth you would expect for a mini series intended for a general audience, but still it was well done.

I wasn't crazy about the Grant series, but it was a big improvement over most of their programs.

Aside from Petersburg on April 3, 1865, did Lincoln visit any battlefields before the dead had been buried? I think they were all buried by the time he visited Sharpsburg on October 4, 1862.

Yeah, I figured. I was wondering where that could have occurred as well. According to Wikipedia there is a cemetery nearby that contains 40 Union soldiers killed in the fight, so I suppose it could be Fort Stevens. Petersburg seems like a better option, though. Lincoln entered Petersburg right after the fighting there on April 3rd. That would be my guess.

Revisionist history! "Little Mac" looks to be as tall or taller than Abraham Lincoln... or perhaps just the camera angle.

As others have stated, hoping this is an improvement over some of the History Channel's more recent efforts.

They are showing Grant currently and up until the Lincoln premier. "Secrets of the Civil War" does air after Lincoln tonight for those interested.

Yeah it was well done. They will never cater to ACW nerds like ourselves but in fairness it was a good show. The Lincoln series will be interesting, I haven't heard about it until now. There's more documentary dramas than ever now , the grant one was good as was the show about George Washington.

Through the first two commercial breaks, it's not bad. Very similar to previous docudramas on Washington and Grant with guest talking heads providing context.

I watched part of the Grant, last evening and then a good bit of Lincoln. First, the commentary was good (as already posted), but the programs were too long: reduce to maybe 90 minutes.

I tend to agree with you. I enjoyed it..
...but after 1 1/2 hours, I was ready for it to be over. Maybe if they did 4 nights at 90 minutes each instead.

The third and final episode aired last night. Overall, I was pleased with the series. It was informative and entertaining, I even learned a couple of things. If I were to grade the entire 3 nights, I would give it a B+.

I was able to catch the second episode and the conclusion last night. I enjoyed it. I thought the actors were really good.
