Apparently that person didn't read the Chicago Tribune. Dewey defeated Truman, not Eisenhower. You all know that famous photo (that's still under copyright).
But back then, @uaskme , the states apparently didn't have to ask the Supreme Court if they could keep someone from a major party off the ballot. Today they do, and the last time it was asked the Supreme Court said, "No." That's always subject to change in the future, though, I suppose.

These threads have set me to wondering: How far would you go to try to "prove" that you were related to someone famous even if you suspected (or downright knew) that you weren't?
