- A. Lincoln

The first picture taken in 1861 at age 51. The second 1865. When comparing these.... its clear to see that 4 years of war took a toll on Lincoln's physical appearance.

Most presidents age given the demands of the office, but Lincoln's transformation was certainly extreme.
It was. Meanwhile, during a civil war, he looses a child, and has to deal with trying to keep his family and marriage together, as his wife grieved over their boy. And deal with politicians trying to undermine him.. etc ,etc. It never ended for him. Then we all know the end result.

I've studied these photos many times over the years. I believe not only stress caused the change but an underlying Illness is very likely at work.

I think they've made guesses at various conditions? Some sound a little off the wall but read one or two that make sense. The thing is with Lincoln you can never tell who is trying to get to some agenda or genuinely wondering what it was he may have been dealing with.
