I posted this for a Company F 4th Georgia Cavalry page. The I noticed the rifled pieces mentioned. I thought most of the Confederate guns were smooth bore made form brass from donated church bells. The 4th Va Cavalry may have gotten the guns from Tredegar Iron Works where they may have madea rifled cannon. How many CS units had rifled cannons?

Rifled guns were made by the Confederates, either smoothbores that were rifled or guns that were designed to be rifled (all the way up to 7 inchers). Confederates made copies of Parrot Guns and don't forget the biggest cannon supplier to the Confederacy was the Union army. Rifled guns were also imported into the Confederacy from England (Whitworths, Blakelys and Armstrongs) .
