Here's my Leech & Rigdon Naval Cutlass. It was manufactured in Selma, AL. The handguard is not missing, some were actually manufactured without one. A scarce piece of Confederate history.

Great looking CS cutlass, has the been there done that look. Could you post a photo of the top where the guard would have come out of?

The ones manufactured in Selma with no handguards had that small piece of brass fill in the pre-cast slot. Here's 2 other Selma examples like mine, and another one also manufactured in Selma, but with a handguard. The ones like mine without handguards also have the handle flush against the blade.

As you can see, mine also has that sucken in casting flaw like the other example.

Also, here's my full inspection and all the details.

After further research, I've come to the conclusion that my Leech & Rigdon Naval Cutlass could have been manufactured in Selma, Alabama OR Columbus, Mississippi. When Thomas Leech and Charles Rigdon left Columbus, Mississippi, they had a very brief stop in Selma, before heading to Greensboro, Georgia. With how brief their stay was in Selma, there's a better chance that it was actually manufactured in Mississippi. Honestly, I'm happy either way. I'm just proud to own a scarce Leech & Rigdon manufactured cutlass!
