That's why I didn't comment when I "liked" the OP. The parallels between Lincoln's day and our own have substance, but it's all too easy to go from there to modern politics! Thanks for posting that. Once again, Gallagher does a fine job. I couldn't help but notice that he pretty much said removing monuments might be a slippery slope. When I said as much several members said the slippery slope idea - i.e. the notion that something done on the emotional spur of the moment might have unintended consequences - was a form of insanity. It's nice to know I'll have good company in the asylum.

I also thought it was odd that the producers felt the need to tell people when Lincoln was president and when the first year of the next president's term will be. If one doesn't even know when the next presidential term begins I'd think one wouldn't be watching such a broadcast in the first place.
