[7th Mississippi Infantry]

My buddy directed me to a figure I'm really interested in.
This would pass for the early uniform of the 17th Mississippi Regiment.

Buy it !

These figures have been relatively rare for years on many sites that specialize in military miniatures.
( However, I can't speak for ebay)

But that is a very accurate early War 1861 regulation Mississippi uniform.

Always stubborn and purposely being different, the original regulation for Mississippi Infantry called for red trim rather than the normally accepted blue. Then the regulations were eventually changed back to blue trim.



But by then, the manufactures had finished many original uniforms with red trim.
I didn't mean to get off track about uniform trim, but if you have a chance ... and the price is reasonable, buy that figure.

BTW, they made a group of poses in this uniform. This will cost ya ~$230. **See below**


I am about to start painting a bust of a soldier in this uniform—but it has the incorrect hat for a 17th Mississippi soldier. The wood base for it should arrive next week.
I had a gr-Gr-Grandfather who served in Company H. That is why I want the figure to have a "too hat" worn by the 17th Mississippi.

My only issue is the sculpts are so much different than my K&C figures.

So this is NOT a King & Country figure? Maybe that is what my buddy told me.

I just checked another figure that was produced and some images and the 17th Mississippi wore a short coat----not this long coat and also not baggy pants like that. This is more what I'm looking for.

Definitely not a K&C figure.

The company is called Collectors Showcase. Met them at the Texas toy soldier show a few years ago. They look like they produce quality stuff. Just doesn't mesh well with K&C figures.

I have about 30 Collector's Showcase figures and only 1 K&C . Mostly I have Britains and the CS figures are much larger than those and larger than the 1 K&C figure I have .

The popular "Hardee Hat" AKA 1858 US Army Dress Hat appears to have been another state regulation ... but as I'm sure you know,
both officers and enlisted hated and often ignored regulation uniforms while in the field ... especially "official" head gear.

So IMHO, any hat/cap used with a Mississippi regiment during 1861, may actually be more authentic.

A local lady has an excellent photo of her ancestor in the early uniform of the 17 Mississippi Regt. So I have a great resource. The hat looked more like a British Marine wore in early 1800's.
However, i doubt these fancy uniforms lasted very long.

I am a direct descendant of all of the below. I also have one additional ancestor that fought for the 29th Maine on the Union side.

Misssissippi Ancestors:

• Drury William Wall - 14th Mississippi Calvary - Company F - Sergeant (I think they might have been known as Capt. Rhodes Raiders)
• Morrison James Guy - 9th Mississippi Calvary - Company B - Private

Morrison Guy transferred to the 8th Mississippi (Company I) sometime in late 1864 and surrendered with General Richard Taylor in 1865.​

Louisiana Ancestors:

• Thomas Bridges - 4th Louisiana Infantry - Company A - Corporal
• James W Morris - 8th Louisiana Infantry - Company G - Private
• William Stringfield - 3rd Louisiana Calvary (Wingfields) - Company C - Private
• James Roan Lea - 3rd Louisiana Calvary (Wingfields) - Company A - Private

• William Stringfield - 3rd Louisiana Calvary (Wingfields) - Company C - Private
• James Roan Lea - 3rd Louisiana Calvary (Wingfields) - Company A - Private

I also had a relative in Wingfield's 3rd Louisiana Calvary (AKA 9th Battalion, Louisiana Partisan Rangers ).

They were an interesting group of men, with some very impressive uniforms.
I hope Wingfield's troopers will someday become a subject for the military figure companies.
