Can you imagine him racing Picket to be the first on the ramparts at Chapultepec? Longstreet was wounded, and Picket won the race, being the first to plant the U.S. flag on the ramparts.

The open/missing button of the coat is representative of where the soldier would slip in his right hand to cover his heart.

I hate to mention ' Killer Angels ' awakened my interest in Longstreet, but it did, sorry. Having done so, boy, never, ever read anything which did one thing but made me admire the man even more. Thanks for this- you seem to be able to 'see' him, you know?
