Is this plain button a civil war button?

An ebay listing made me think the button inside the GAR button cap is an old army button. I'd love a verification.

Interesting button but its a post war and NOT CW. Thanks for posting.

I've talked with that person a ton. They hardly ever have the right description nor do they change it after you tell them
I sometimes try to correct ebayers when their listing isn't correct. Don't know how often they change. I know some of them won't have it. One guy told me some of his buttons might be gold. Whatever. We're all broke these days. Can't judge too harshly.

You're not abusing the board at all! That's what it's here for. Everyone has their niche in collecting this stuff. Just keep me in mind for some of insignia hahah. We're happy to help with the items you find, I just thought you were a button collector. Your button also has a patent date of August 3rd 1886

I know everyone would like to think they've found a goldmine but there's a difference in not knowing and outright deceiving people on eBay. It's fully loaded with fake items and a lot of the time most people change their listings if they just weren't aware but other people really make it difficult because they know it's a fake and don't care.It sucks when you think you have something great but it's incorrectly identified but that's what happens to a lot of people when they buy first and ask later unfortunately.

I was asking about the plain button to the side of the button cap. I did notice the date on the button cap. Even I wouldn't come here and ask if a GAR button was from the Civil War. Give me SOME credit.

I just donated five bucks to the board. Money well spent given my many button posts.

Of course! Credit where it's due. You'd be surprised at just how many people do ask about GAR buttons being civil war haha. You find really nice items and with how often you do find things it's only a matter of time before you find that massively expensive button. Keep a look out for Arkansas, Alabama and Tennessee, those are just some of the most expensive ones

There's a few folks on ebay who put 20-30 buttons on a card and don't show us the backs. And I have bought a few of those and found nice things but it's such an obvious deception that I'd discourage anybody touching them.

No. I buy junk and find stuff to flip on ebay. A lot of the times it's buttons. I'm obviously asking too many questions. Didn't mean to abuse the board.
I tried doing that years ago. I found that when researching items so that I could write copy for the auction I discovered whatever I was going to sell was too interesting and I couldn't let it go. Now I only buy and have a house full of stuff in boxes.
