Is that hat for real

Hi Team. Please forgive if question is redundant. I just have to ask since I am a child of the early second 1/2 of the 20th century.
Is there any evidence that anyone on either side of the Civil War pinned up the front of their hat? Like Corporal Agarn on the series F Troop? I have yet to find that but figured you folks combined would have researched this. Thanks

This fella in a well known photo of rebel prisoners at White House Landing appears to have the front of his hat turned up.

If you skim through a search for Civil War Cavalry, you will see a number from Texas with the star visible. Saw one recently from Miss.

The fella in the second rank from this photo of a Michigan regiment in the Army of the Cumberland appears to be doing a Cpl. Agarn. I looked at photos of several hundred hat wearing Western Yankee infantry and in all manner of slouch and Hardee hats worn in every manner saw only one other folded back in front, that of a fella in the 7th Illinois smoking a pipe atop Lookout Mountain. Shows you how bored I am tonight.
