Interesting find!

He is sporting a rather long ladder badge with many honors hanging from it.

He is indeed missing his left index finger and his right arm.

If you look close he is siting on a bedroll.

Henry E. Kinsman : Residence Royalton VT; Enlisted on 8/20/1861 as a 1st Sergeant.
On 9/13/1861 he mustered into "F" Company US Volunteers 1st SharpShooters. 2nd Lieut 5/15/1863. 1st Lieut 11/5/1863. Wounded 5/7/1864 Wilderness, VA. He was Mustered Out on 9/13/1864.

He looks pretty dam close. Fold3 just list his index card and no records to see if he lost an arm but with his wound date and discharge date its possible.

It is close but if the don't have a listing of the members in the photo in order to ID, We can locate his service records and see if they show these injuries

i have been researching my great great grandfather, Ira Lunt. He was a private in the 2nd Regmt Company D US Sharpshooters of Maine. This photo was sent to me from the Berdan Sharpshooters site in DC showing him attending a spirited meeting in Boston. The various post war organizations were quarreling over who should be the official organization. He was very active in the GAR.
They gave me permission to use the image freely.
@Twlunt would I be correct in that your GGGrandfather wore the green uniform and carried the sharps rifle?

He did wear the green uniform but he had the option to take his own Target Rifle to war. Many Sharpshooters used Target Rifles. If you missed it I posted several pics of it in a separate post. @Dom71

The photo was taken during the GAR National Encampment held in Boston that year. The Boston Herald of August 15, 1890, tells of the controversy surrounding the competing Sharpshooters' Veterans organizations -- and even mention the taking of that very picture:

Attached below is a pdf of the full page, which contains many articles about the veterans and their doings during their Encampment: visits to local attractions, etc.

Part of the event was a visit to Boston by a naval squadron, including USS Atlanta, Kearsarge, Yorktown, and Vesuvius, which the veterans could visit. Sounds like it was an exciting week in Beantown!
