Splitting this off from the thread where it started as it is off topic there:

Immigrant cannon fodder were far more instrumental

While there was certainly some racism toward Irish and German immigrants, I am under the impression that this didn't go farther on the battlefield than a lack of respect and lack of confidence in those regiments.

Please present evidence German and/or Irish regiments were used more recklessly than other regiments, or otherwise disproportionately misused or sacrificed by Union generals.

I assume @Pat Young has some thoughts on this subject too.
