Identifying yet another Iron ball!

Gents,

I've seen a number of these posts.

I'm pretty sure this item I found at a garage sale is not a cannon ball but thought I would show you all anyway.

It's 12 pounds, 14 inch diameter. Most telling, it has a numeral 2 stamped on it. So I assume it's a track & field ball.

I did checck with these excellent sites.

Cannon bore, shot, shell, canister, and grape shot diameters for rifled and smoothbore cannon.

Had a 6 pounder in my collection for years. Along comes the internet and better research. Behold it's a Mill Ball. In the dumpster it went. Ah only out about $30-35 as memory serves me. Good job Mr. Duckett ask a lot of questions here before you buy. Many good and knowledgeable folks here to keep you from being ripped off or making a mistake.

Thanks for posting.....Yes, several people have found rock crushing balls in Vicksburg and swore it was a cannonball...so it's great you posted here and let some great folks look at it for you. Yours sure looks like a shot put.
