How many overseas battles were there?

In general, there were more almost-battles and missed attempts than actual battles. An example is the confrontation between the USS Niagara and Sacramento vs. the CSS Stonewall on the coast of Spain. The senior US officer was court-martialed for failing to be as aggressive as he might have been. (My guy Henry Walke was in command of the Sacramento and was apparently straining at the leash, but followed his superior's orders.)
