Help with this find?

This may be junk or it may be something cool, I have no idea. It was dug in among a bunch of broken horseshoes in an artillery camp, maybe its a tent stake or something? Any ideas?

Its a touch over 4" long and 1.5" across the "T."

Using my WAG methodology, and somewhat based on what it was found with, maybe some sort of a hoof cleaner/scraper? If it is an implement of some sort, maybe it had a wooden handle or grip, with the way it tapers down along the length. Kind of unusual, though. Electrolysis might help with the identification.

Hadn't thought of that, maybe it is? I don't have access to electrolysis unfortunately.

It looks like a tent peg but who/when did they make tent pegs out of iron?!!

Loosen rust particles with a scrub pad.

• Dab a portion of the paper towel in vinegar and rub it on the rusted areas.
• Remove any leftover rust with the scrub pad.
• If there is still rust remaining, combine the lime juice and salt to create a coarse paste.
• Wipe the antique metal clean with a fresh paper towel.

Alternatively, you can use a mild liquid acid, such as white vinegar or citric acid, to remove rust or discoloration from metals

Very well could be. It would make sense given where it was found!
