Help with a saddle??

That's the book I referred to in my earlier post. Ken and I were in the same Cavalry reenactment unit. When questions about authenticity arose around the campfire or on the picket line "ask Ken he wrote the book" was a frequent statement. An excellent source of information.

Ken Knopp is most definitely the go to guy for Confederate Cavalry.

We were very fortunate to have him in the unit. We always worked to improve our impression.
No yellow trim, no brass or cords on the hats, no NCO chevrons. Sabres only if requested by the event host.

Nice saddle. The national park service still uses these saddles at some of the parks like Yosemite.

What you have is most likely a Model 1904 McClellan Cavalry saddle.

If I am not mistaken the second saddle is 20th century and modern ceremonial saddles are black with finders more like the Civil War saddles.
