Hello all:
Can anyone give me some ideas as to how to determine an authentic/original Civil War era 'flags and cannon' powder flask from a repro (or one made overseas, like in Italy or by Dixon and son in Sheffield)? Any help would be appreciated. I'm attaching a pic of the type of flask I'm interested in (though I'm not pursuing THIS particular flask).

With all the repros? Good luck!

Might try going over here and read up a bit to start:

The only thing I could add is that I was given an old flask many years ago that was for a sporting gun. They were fairly cheap back in the day. It has a very dark patina.
