Help identifying gun barrel?

I work at an antebellum plantation house in SE Arkansas. During archeology of an outbuilding a gun barrel was found. I'd like some help identifying something about it for an artifact label.

The house and the outbuilding are built ca. 1859.

Can you give me some details about how you identified it? Some idea of its age? And how common is it to have a name inlaid at the rear of the barrel.

Sure looks like an Allen boxlock action to me. The fact that it's a boxlock, shape of the snail around the nipple. Can't say shotgun without checking the bore for riflin

Would rifling survive the rust?

It is an Allen and I've owned several over the years. It was not rifled as it was a shotgun. This is not a guess as it is a positive ID. Wesson was a rifle.
