Greetings all. At the recent Ohio Civil War show I purchased a drawing. This drawing was reported as having been carried in the war by " A. H. Barry of 8th M. V. M. CO I "

I've searched extensively for this MVM. I tried Minnesota Volunteer militia, Mass Volunteer, etc etc. but with no luck a soldier by that name in those ranks.

Anyone's guess on what M. V. M. may reference?

A photo or scan of the document would be very helpful.

They are quite good illustrations. In my view, the botanical illustration on the right is more finished and of slightly higher quality, but the drawing on the left looks as if it could have been genuinely drawn in the field. Field sketches are often less finished, so I am not judging one against the other. I think you have nice field drawings here, and I think it would be cool if your ancestor turned out to be in one of the Missouri militias. Be persistent and keep digging deep with your research. He could have been with any of the "M" states. It doesn't matter. He was YOUR ancestor and that's the main thing! Welcome!
