Just worked out I think how to post a message, hope you are all keeping well and looking after those in need, we are in lock down in the UK and it has been announced today this may be for 12 weeks, only 6 Days in and am now going through cupboards to see what we have, on doing this I found a Sharpes rifle with the stamp sharpes, 5th October 1852, on the tag is the number c7039, the barrel has no number but has the stamp sharpes, Hartford, Conn, there is a faw stamp on the barrel and the last thing is new model and a date which I cant make out, this is behind the rear sight. Does this rifle seem correct as only 1 serial number, hoping someone can help, keep safe and stay away from others, at least 6ft. thank you

Welcome from the Shiloh/Pittsburg Landing Forum and North Mississippi! I am unable to assist you with your question but go to the Small Arms Forum listed below for expert opinions from other members.

Our small arms pros should be along shortly and in the meantime, welcome to the group from just outside of Birmingham (the one in Alabama); we are glad that you can join us.

With that serial # it's going to be a new model 1863. There are several variations in the transition over to this model. Photos of the markings will help a lot but in the mean time does it have a saddle ring and there should be some cartouche marks on the left side of the stock where the saddle ring is.

Hi thanks for the help, the saddle ring is missing but the metal strap it attaches to is there, cant see a cartouche. Does the gun have a any value, the barrel is slightly rusty, thank you
