I know there is already a thread on the fued, but im wondering about the tv show... Just how authentic is the show? Is the clothes, hats, boots, etc period correct and is that how a common southern back woodsman dressed?

There was a lot of attention to the detail of dress, guns, etc. Not everything was perfect in the film but Costner really does try to get most things right.

People dressed better than we think...much more formally. Even out in the Texas boonies. I mean, Ben McCulloch favored black velvet. I don't think we saw enough women dipping snuff....but....can't have everything.

I shrugged off the uneasy feeling that these guys had an awful lot of modern guns.

I think Nathanb1 is right - folks back then didn't dress like the guys shot in their long johns! (Ick...) Forrest, for instance, liked brocade vests!
